Here it is folks, the the video for my new single 'Fixed For Today', Filmed and directed by Conor Masterson.
My new single 'Fixed For Today' is out . . . Wait for it . . . NOW! It's available on Spotify/iTunes/google play/Amazon etc . . . Artwork as always by Shaan Syed.
I feel like I owe you an explanation on why I've been away for a while, it's a long story, but stick with me.
For legal reasons I've gotta be a little careful what I say on here but here goes. Last July I signed to a new label. After my first 2 albums I was doing ok, playing shows, selling a few records, eating hot dogs, existing within my means . . . you know the score.
So this label comes along and say they want to pay for me to make a record, put me on tour, all the normal stuff. The label is basically 2 dudes, for legal reasons we're gonna call them Cynthia & Helen. Cynthia is the Label manager, Helen is a private financier (the guy who signs the cheques).
So I made the album, 'From The Shallows', I was really happy with it, I still am. I poured a lot of myself into it & it took a year to make.
It was released January 2015, & low & behold there are no reviews, no tour, no radio play, no nothing,
I'm calling Cynthia asking whats going on? & he's all like 'Slowly slowly catchee monkey' this & 'bigger plan' that. Always nice as pie... Until Cynthia stops returning my calls & emails completely. So i just get on with it, promote it to my existing fans (you lot) & play a few acoustic shows etc . . .
A year passes & I finally I get hold of Helen (Cynthia always kept Helens contact details off limits but I dug around and got hold of his phone number), the conversation went something like this:
Me: "Hi Helen, what a nightmare the last year's been eh? Where was all the promotion you dudes promised?"
Helen: "What are you talking about Alexander?, Ive spent tens of thousands of pounds on the promotion of your record, tours, radio pluggers, press people. All I've heard from Cynthia for the last year is how difficult you are & how you've been refusing to do TV slots, radio interviews etc"
So . . . after the phone call, Helen does some digging around It turns out that Cynthia has been 'less than truthful' about the budgets. The press budget, radio budget, touring budget, as well as invoicing for things that were not actually happening.
Like I said before, I'm limited as to what I can say on here but let's just say he was 'mismanaging' the labels funds, and he purposefully let the record slowly drown in silence . . . Bummer.
In summation the label is finished & Cynthia is obviously going to face legal action and I'm . . . Well, I'm still eating hot dogs, existing within my means... you know the score.
Through all of this unsavoury stuff there was 1 person at the label who tried tirelessly to do the right thing under difficult circumstances. So, a big shout out to Chris, if you see him at the bar, buy him a pint.
I'm not actually sure why I'm telling you this anymore . . . I think I just needed to tell someone, so may as well be you lot right?
So that's where I've been. I've been tangled up with the label thing for ages and I couldn't put any music out, but as of this morning I'm freeeeeeeee. And as a way of celebration I'm putting out a new single on Monday. It's called 'Fixed For Today' it's a pop song about taking the rough with the smooth, I hope you dig it, I bet you do.
